PYLON is excited to present Wednesday Kim's new mental care project 'The Mental Athlete' starting on November 24, 2022.

Wednesday Kim is an interdisciplinary artist and a co-founder of De:Formal. She is from Seoul, South Korea and is currently based out of California. Kim works with a mixture of analog and digital media including 3D animation, video, performance, installation, print, and sculpture with clusterfuck aesthetics. Her work is informed by personal experiences and human psychology; she derives imagery from nightmares, intrusive thoughts, and childhood trauma. Furthermore, she portrays the absurdity of information-saturated contemporary life in a surrealist fashion through wordplay, Wikipedia, voyeurism, and witticism.

Recent exhibitions and screenings include: Mental; Science Gallery, Melbourne; “The Digital Weird”; Arebyte Gallery, Oline, London, UK, Well Now WTF?, Silicon Valet, Online; Meme is my culture, Spazio Y, Rome (2020); Transmediale Vorspiel, Berlin; FASTLINE, Hervisions for Art Night 2019, London; CHRYSANTHEMM, Underground Flower, Ho Chi Minh City; Project Marco Asylum, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea de Rome, Rome (2019); SUPERNOVA Digital Animation Festival, Denver (2018); 8th Cairo Video Festival, Medrar for Contemporary Art, Cairo; Lanzarote International Video Art, Cultura Lanzarote, Las Palmas (2017)..

Kim was shortlisted and received a residency prize for the Mother Art Prize 2018 by The Procreate Project and was awarded the Audience Prize as part of the Parts & Labour animation programme as Derby QUAD in 2016.

On Saturday, January 7, 2023, PYLON and Wednesday will be joined by multidisciplinary artist Rory Scott who will do a live workout session:

7pm (Berlin time) 10am (LA time) 12pm (Chicago time)

Join us on zoom to work out together, the link can be found below and on our social media.

As a special guest, Rory Scott will come with her 3D full body filter and demonstrate easy level work out which you can easily follow in your office or home. You are welcome to come with your own filters and the 3D full body filter made by Rory will be provided as well.

Scott's work is recognized for its use of patterns, glitter and for its likeness to the Universe. Through both digital and handmade means, Scott explores the ideas of impermanence, the passage of time and the impacts of technology upon the evolution of humanity. Rory Scott lives in Chicago and is an Alumni of The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

The online exhibition is part of PYLON-Lab's program COLLATERAL EXTINCTION, funded by Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen.

Gefördert durch die Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen. Diese Maßnahme wird mitfinanziert durch Steuermittel auf der Grundlage des vom Sächsischen Landtag beschlossenen Haushaltes.

The Mental Athlete

"The Mental Athlete" is Wednesday's new mental care project for everyone stuck at their home or office or home office. It is another series of work that deals with mental health. In her past work, "Aesthetic of being Disappeared.", a therapist appeared to help out, and this time, a health trainer will help you get your mind healthier. “The Mental Athlete" is based on a mixture of her personal experiences + other people’s experiences via an online survey.

It illustrates the relationship between mental health and cleaning and how exercise boosts the brain and improves mental health.

A clean home and healthy body are the evidence of a state of mind.

Are you tired? Are you depressed? Do you stay home and work on a computer for a long day?

Get ready with Wednesday. Let's work out together.

We would like to share the new year's total easy body reconstruction plan. We want to stay healthy together. Rory’s 3D full body filter is called Orchid. Orchid is a 3D augmented avatar, assembled from several personal avatars, from a virtual social space. The collaged avatar, manipulated and reimagined in a 3D program is brought to life in AR, with body tracking the movements of the user—bringing the virtual existence into the physical space.
